§ 20-208. Traffic citations.

  • (a)

    The form of the traffic citation shall be as prescribed and approved jointly by the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Criminal Court and the Chief of Police.

    (b)

    Upon the issuance of a traffic citation to an alleged violator of this chapter, the original and two (2) duplicate copies of the citation shall be delivered to the records division of the Police Department.

    (c)

    Once issued, a traffic citation shall be disposed of only by trial in the Municipal Criminal Court or by other official action of a judge of that court.

    (d)

    No police officer or any other person shall dispose of, alter, deface, cancel or solicit the cancellation of any traffic citation, or copy thereof, or the record of such issuance or the disposition of that citation, or any complaint or warrant arising therefrom.

    (e)

    No person shall violate his written promise to appear given to an officer upon the issuance of a traffic citation regardless of the disposition of the charge for which such citation was originally issued.
